نه
On June 19, 2023, the hashtag #نه (no) went viral on social media. The hashtag is the result of the brutal attacks on students in Tehran on June 17, 2023, as they were taking part in a peaceful sit-down demonstration. The people from the sit in where claiming only one word, which is “no”: “We say “no” to gender apartheid, to violence, to rape, to forced hijab, to executions, to a murderous regime, to fascism, especially to the Islamic Republic and much more. We have nothing else to say except ”نه“. “ In solidarity with the students of Iran, Afghanistan and Kurdistan we would like our project to be the same Title “نه”. Since the Taliban regime came to power in Afghanistan August 2021, female students were denied the right to education. Kurdish students are also limited in their education, because they are denied to learn their native language in schools. The Javaneh collective wants to be a voice for those who are not heard and in this case we would like to hear the voices of the young people of Iran, Afghanistan and of Kurdistan, whose freedom corrupted and denied by opressive forces.
Our art project concerns therefore a carpet which is sewed from many different materials and material parts that symbolize our transnational solidarty and combined fight against dictatorships. In the middle of the carpet is the word ”نه“ sewed in golden silk.
