Down with the Data Centre! Poster Workshop

The destructive nature of hyperscale data centres tends to hide behind lofty metaphors like the weightless ‘Cloud’ and unfulfillable promises about economic prosperity and social transformation. These narratives are especially prevalent during the planning and construction phase of new data centres. Like in the case of Google’s Kronstorf hyperscaler, which has been 18 years in the making.

How can we mobilise people to resist and refuse the further buildout of these toxic infrastructures? And which alternative imaginaries do we envision for territories being transformed into ‘Cloud’ factories?

In preparation of the "Landscape Grief Camp – collective protest-ritual-spell development session" on Saturday, we will collectively develop protest slogans and put them on paper. We will produce such posters to express our opposition to the Google hyperscaler construction in Kronstorf, create a language to counter such destructive projects and imagine an alternative destiny for this site.
