Sophie Rieger

Born in the year 2000 Sophie Rieger is a Linz based artist and since 2019 studies Sculptural Conceptions and Ceramics at the University of Art and Industrial Design in Linz.

My sculptural works are often inspired by nature, elements of organic structures from flora and fauna of the forests and oceans. I work with a variety of materials such as latex wood and metals. The willingness to be transformed in form and texture makes ceramics my main medium. Topics such as the human body, skin, physical and psychological metamorphoses as well as my engagement with femininity, with my own experiences and experiences as a woman in society are reflected in my works. For me, an open, spontaneous and experimental work process forms the basis of my work.
